What you're basically paying for..
Professional products, proper drying, soaked shoes, flying fluff, and the strange level of commitment it takes to make the whole thing look easy.
What we actually do
When your dog comes in for a bath and blow dry, we first give them a chance to settle in and get comfortable. For some dogs, that means having a quiet moment to explore the space before we begin. If it's your dog's first visit with us, we recommend arriving around 10 minutes early to allow a little extra settling time.
We have an outdoor grass area available for toileting and fresh air, and clean water is available throughout the salon, including filtered running water. We also have different areas to suit different dogs, including a holding space near reception where dogs can stay under watch on their own, a larger indoor space for suitable social dogs, and outdoor areas. For dogs who are shy or need extra comfort, we also have a variety of crate sizes, including a bedded box crate.
If your dog is not comfortable around other dogs, please let us know at drop-off so we can manage their space accordingly. Dogs who need their own space are kept separate, either crated comfortably, kept on lead, or placed in a separate pen until pick-up.
When it's time for the bath, we help your dog into our grooming bath. The bath can be raised or lowered to suit different sizes and to make things easier for older dogs or dogs with mobility issues.
From there, we bathe the coat in warm water using products chosen to suit your dog's skin and coat needs. We use a range of quality shampoos and conditioners, including Smith & Burton, sensitive options, deodorising shampoos, conditioning treatments, de-shedding products, and flea shampoo where needed. If your dog uses a medicated shampoo, you're welcome to bring it in and let us know on arrival.
Bathing also gives us a good chance to get a closer look at the skin and coat. If we notice anything unusual, such as irritation, parasites, or other concerns, we will let you know and respond appropriately.
After bathing, we dry the coat using the method that best suits the dog in front of us. Some coats benefit from a high-velocity dryer, which helps remove water, loose coat, dirt, and dander more thoroughly. Other dogs do better with a lower-velocity dryer for a calmer, less stimulating experience, especially puppies, anxious dogs, or dogs with certain medical needs.
Once the coat is dry, we brush through it thoroughly from root to tip and check from nose to tail with a fine comb to pick up any hidden knots or tangles. If knots are present and you would like them removed, please let us know at drop-off. This is charged separately at a per-minute rate.
Before pick-up, we make sure the coat is clean, dry, and brushed through, and that your dog is comfortable and ready to go home smelling fresh and feeling good.
Why we do what we do
A proper bath and blow dry does more than just clean the coat. It removes loose hair, dirt, dander, and build-up that brushing alone cannot reach. It also gives us a chance to check the skin and coat condition, spot anything that might need attention, and leave the coat in better shape than when it came in.
Regular bathing helps maintain coat health, reduces shedding around the home, and keeps your dog more comfortable. It is also a good foundation for any other grooming work, since a clean, properly dried coat is much easier to brush, clip, and finish well.
Optional add-ons available
You can customise this service with optional extras such as teeth brushing, fragrance, ear cleaning, conditioning treatments, fur masks, paw balm, nail clipping, and anal gland checks where appropriate.
Who is this for?
This service is ideal for dogs who need a proper clean and freshen without any clipping or trimming, dogs with short or wash-and-wear coats, and dogs who are booked in for grooming elsewhere but need a bath and dry first.
Recommended breeds
Bath and blow dry appointments are a good fit for short-coated breeds such as Labradors, Beagles, Boxers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers, as well as longer-coated breeds who are being maintained at home between full grooms.
Good to know
This service does not include clipping, trimming, or scissor work. If your dog needs any coat tidying or shaping, an express groom, mini groom, or full stylised groom may be a better fit.
